International Programs, a department of UC Irvine Extension, offers life-enriching academic, professional, and cultural experiences to international audiences to help them succeed in today’s competitive global environment. The experiences we provide include superior English-language instruction, post-graduate certificates with pathways to internship options and Optional Practical Training (OPT), and comprehensive preparation for successful undergraduate and graduate studies

Professionals and students will experience post-graduate level professional training by skilled field instructors and then have the opportunity to practice in a U.S. business environment.

UC Irvine Certificate programs are ideal if you are living close to Los Angeles, California Area, or abroad, and want to:
• Obtain F-1 student status to come to the United States (U.S.A)
• Learn business and technology skills during your time in the U.S.A
• Become eligible for paid work after completing your program

With careful course planning, certificates can be completed in nine-to-twelve months after which students can get Optional Practical Training (OPT) that allows students to work for any employer in the United States for up to a year.

Who should apply?

The UCSC Certificate Programs are designed to meet the needs of university-level students (with at least a 3-4 yr Bachelor’s degree) and professionals from around the world who have strong English language skills (80 iBT or equivalent or whose primary mode of education is English), excellent academic and professional preparation (GPA of 3 on a 4.0 grade point scale), and who wish to take courses in their fields of specialization.

Students from countries like INDIA, whose primary medium of education is English are highly recommended to apply as there is no requirement for TOEFL/CBT/PBT/IELTS/TOEIC

For students from other countries whose primary medium of education is NOT English, the following scores are also accepted in lieu of 80 iBT:

  • 213 CBT
  • 550 PBT
  • 6.5 IELTS
  • 760 TOEIC

Program Cost

Approximate tuition cost USD $16,000 plus USD $12,000 for 12 months of living expenses (higher side). Living expenses may vary depending on where the student chooses to live etc.

Working in US after the Program

Graduates of the Certificate Programs can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) with the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) that allows the graduate to work for any valid* employer in the United States for upto one year from the time of graduation. After this one year, the student can obtain a H-1 B VISA from a sponsoring employer, that allows the student to stay in the United States and work for upto 6 yrs. Please contact for more details

Getting a Job after the certificate program depends on the student and his network, which may be limited given the short duration that the student has been in the United States.

However, if the student applies through Exellor Education, our Consulting arm – will help students by making valuable introductions to hiring managers, provide job seeker advice such as resume review and guidance, introductions to companies that will either hire or train and place consultants at various technology companies in the San Francisco, Bay Area.

Since 2008, has been helping Bay Area companies such as Cisco Systems, NetApp, Aruba Networks, Wells Fargo with IT staff augmentation by placing various software engineers and others at these companies and several others.

This service is available ONLY for those students who apply to these Certification programs through Exellor Education

On-Campus work

While enrolled as a full-time student (12 units/credits per quarter (3 months)), students are allowed to work on-campus for upto 20 hrs per week.

Work after graduation

After graduation, students can work for any valid US Employer on OPT (Optional Practical Training) for upto one year.

Exellor Education can help students find a job after their graduation by introducing graduates to potential employers in the Silicon Valley and other places in the US.
